Letter from the superintendent on Return to School Safety Plan

Dear Hornet Community,

I personally want to thank our Miller Grove ISD students, families, staff, and community for the excellent beginning to our 2021-2022 school year!

As you are likely aware, COVID-19 has spiked throughout the State of Texas, especially in communities surrounding Miller Grove. Entire school districts have closed operations in recent days and weeks. Thanks to the incredible efforts of our families, as well as the implementation of the District’s Safe Return to In-Person Instruction & Continuity of Services Plan, Miller Grove ISD remains open to deliver the highest quality education to our students in a safe, healthy environment.

Since commencement of the school year, the District has received reports of only two COVID-19 illnesses. Although we long for the day when no one suffers from COVID-19, the low number of incidents demonstrates that our Safe Return Plan and our families’ implementation of the Plan are working.

In accordance with the Safe Return Plan, many of our students and personnel voluntarily choose to wear face coverings in accordance with the CDC recommendations. Students are practicing social distancing and following guidelines for healthy hygiene practices. Families self-screen students prior to each school day. In short, we are following the Plan, and we are staying healthy and safe. As cases spike in our Hopkins County, I ask that you remain diligent in following these practices.

Miller Grove ISD monitors developments regarding COVID-19 on a daily basis. This school district remains resolved in our absolute, unfettered commitment to maintaining the health and safety of our students and staff. Your cooperation is largely why our doors – and most importantly, our textbooks – remain open. Through our community-wide efforts, we will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do. For this, I am truly grateful.

Sincerely,

Steve Johnson

Superintendent of Schools
